My good buddy Gigi has finally opened her Etsy shop, specialising in GORGEOUS handmade pin toppers. Look what I bought this morning:

She’s also got birdies, mushrooms, apples and cuppiecakes there. Yay!

Couple o’ finished projects

In between being bitten by white-tails and being mildly disgruntled, I’ve been doing a little bit of stitching to catch up on swaps. Here’s a quick show’n'tell of two rockabilly napkins I recently finished for a 5 things swap.

I used iron- ons from the Sublime Stitching book and added a bit of freehand text with appropriate phrases. I decided that my swap buddies can use them as place mats, rather than napkins, and I hope they like ‘em.

I’ve done this before here and here, but I never miss an opportunity…so here we go:

1. As above, I’m not backwards in coming forwards…I’m certainly not shy. Which is weird because for most of my childhood I was very shy. As my friend Melanie once said about herself “I used to be painfully shy until one day I found my spirit and just thought f#ck it, I don’t care what they think of me.” I agree.

2. You don’t have to be rich to be my girl, you don’t have to be cool to rule my world… (actually that’s just playing at the moment, but it is true. Although I like boys not girls.)

3. This description here for a melancholic humour sums me up very very well. ["It's the terror of knowing what this world is about..." - which followed Prince on Media Player just now.] I have Type II bipolar in case you were wondering.

4. Since a very early age I have been afraid of heights. Any heights. Evidence here, guess who the cranky child is who wouldn’t climb the ladder to the top of the cubby in this kindergarten photo?

5. I have a scar on the left side of my top lip. So the story goes, when I was a wee Drewzel, I picked up our sleeping kitty, who responded by scratching me in the face. I have no memory of it at all. It actually looks like one of those vertical creases that people who smoke too much get on their top lips.

6. Have I told you anything weird yet? Some people may think it’s weird that I could live on 2 minute noodles and chocolate donuts. Although come to think of it, as a uni student, I did.

7. Don’t hate me here people, but I really don’t understand dressing up Blythe dolls and taking lots of pics. I really want to play along, but I just don’t get it. Sorry.

I’ve been on a bit of a hiatus, too many fingers in too many pies, so to speak. But a fewthings are happening – I decided to consolidate my endeavours somewhat, especially on the internet. Right now my Made it and Etsy shops are empty, here’s why…

Lunchtime op-break

In the interests of “research”, I looked up some local oppies from Amelia’s fab list, and decided to spend my lunchtime scavenging.

I went to was St. Vinnie’s in Seaford, it’s tucked away in a suburban shopping strip, and is quite dinky. Their speciality seems to be clothes, and maybe books. There wasn’t much in the way of nice old china or homewares (which are my favourites.) However the prices were dirt cheap and the little craft rack yielded all this:

Which added up to $2.50, but the nice woman behind the counter let me have it for $2.40 as that was all the change I had in my wallet. I was stoked to find a Semco traced doiley – barely worked and with holes for crochet edging which I might have a go at doing. Also there was the folder and first volume of ‘Discovering Needlework’ which was a weekly “how to” magazine, with transfers, a free kit, and lots of ideas. I used to have almost the whole set of these, 5 or 6 folders worth, and in the early 90’s, picking this up in the newsagency got me keen on stitching again. (By the way, if any of you Melbournians picked up 5 or 6 folders from the op-shop, with the transfers and kits mostly used, yep, they were mine. I foolishly turfed them back in 2003-ish.)

So all in all, I was pleased with my scores there. I grabbed the zipper basically because I liked the packaging, and the slogan on the side “disaster-proof”! Ah yes, I’ve had a zipper disaster involving a vintage burgundy velvet dress and going to a gig at The Old Greek Theatre. Should’a had one of these.
